About Worldview
A worldview is the basic structure and framework we adopt for thinking about the world and our place in it. It’s like a pair of spectacles with a coloured tint, meaning we will tend to think in a certain way – emphasising the importance of some evidence and downplaying or ignoring other evidence. Everyone has a worldview, including those who are not aware that they have one.
The two worldviews relevant to considering Intelligent Design are
Naturalism and
Theism. Adherents of both worldviews agree that there is apparent design the natural world. But within the worldview of Naturalism the possibility that this design is real and not just apparent cannot be entertained – no matter how unsatisfactory may be the attempts to explain the design by unguided, naturalistic processes. Elsewhere on this site the mounting evidence for the explanatory inadequacy of these mechanisms is highlighted.
